Hello friends!
I wanted to let you know of some changes at preschool going on right now:
Morning class: we will be practicing our names every day. Look for a "name card" to come home with your child each day.
Also, we will start working on our alphabet and number books that will come home at the end of the year.
Afternoon class: Each day your child will come up and instead of having play time first, they will come to the tables for "table work". They will be doing table work with 1-3 sheets of work each day. Look for these to come home with your child. We are going to be modeling a kindergarten classroom from now until the end of the school year with more intense circle time learning. Also, I will be sending baggie books home with your child from now on. Please read with your child and sign the name of the book on the sheet and send it back to preschool the following time. Your child WILL get some books more than once. That is okay, repetition is good for reading :) Thanks!!

Aquarium Field Trip
Hello!
I had to reschedule the field trip to the aquarium to Tuesday March 6th. There was an overbooking and we got cut because we aren't an "official" school group.

January Songs
I'm a Little Snowman
I'm a little snowman, short and stout.
Sticks for arms and a carrot snout.
When the weather warms up, gosh, oh gee!
I melt and there's no more of me!
Itsy Bitsy Snowman
The Itsy Bitsy Snowman was standing in the snow
Down came some flakes-it made the snowman grow
Out came the sun to shine its golden rays
Which warmed the snowman and made him melt away

What do we do all day?
Thanks for all the sign ups on the Halloween Party!
I have had a couple of parents ask about what it is that we do here at preschool. I know how frustrating it can be to ask your child what they did at school and get very vague information. ( I always knew what my kids were doing at school, since I have always had them in my preschool class...so I got a big dose of reality when Remy went to Kindergarten!)
So, I thought I would let you know what we do on a daily basis at school, and then I will post my lesson plans for the month on the blog here, so you can have some information to ask your child questions when they are home from school!
But first:
**disclaimer**
I am a firm believer of child-directed learning. This means that I have a lesson plan with lots of fun activities, but if the children are intensely interested in one thing that we are doing, I won't cut it short just to move on to something because it is on my lesson plan. We will flesh out, create, and explore something until it is finished. So, if we don't get everything done on the lesson plan, that is why. :)
Daily Activities:
*Days of the week
*Months of the year
*Counting 1-30
*One-to-One Correspondence 1-10
*Letters A-Z
*Number Recognition 1-20
*Phonemic Awareness
3 year old class focus:
*Color recognition
*Shape recognition
*Letter sounds
*Letter recognition
*Beginning Writing (small motor skills)
4 year old class focus:
*Sight words
*Beginning reading (DISTAR program)
*Writing Name
I closely follow the Kindergarten Readiness Guidelines found HERE set forth by the Utah State Office of Education.

School is starting!
Hello!
Here are some important dates and times for school this year:
Open House: Thursday August 25th from 10:00-Noon
First Day: Tuesday August 30th
A.M. Class Time: 9:30-11:30
P.M. Class Time: 12:30-2:45
**The first day of school time for the PM class is going to be a tad different. I forgot that I am now the mom of a Kindergartener that is starting school that day too. I can't let him go to his first day of school without me taking him; so on Tuesday August 30th, PM class will start at 12:50 instead of 12:30. Please forgive me this change.**
